Deutsche Lufthansa officially launched the world’s first Airbus A320neo aircraft at its Frankfurt Airport (FRA) home base. Lufthansa is thus deploying the latest aircraft generation – equipped with state-of-the-art technology – from the FRA global hub, offering passengers yet another milestone in quality and travel comfort. With the A320 neo, Lufthansa’s fleet at FRA is supplemented by another “world first” in aviation. Frankfurt Airport already hosts a number of other latest-generation aircraft models, including the Airbus A380 and A350, as well as the Boeing models B787 (Dreamliner), B747-8 and B777.

Lufthansa intends to deploy a total of five new Airbus A320neo aircraft from FRA by the end of 2016. Fraport, the owner and operator of Frankfurt Airport, welcomes Lufthansa’s latest fleet enhancement, since the A320neo is one of the quietest and most energy-efficient aircraft models for short and medium-haul flights. The departure noise footprint of the new aircraft type is almost 50 percent smaller than that of its predecessor, according to aircraft manufacturer Airbus. More interesting facts about the A320neo can be found here.

All new A320neo aircraft will also be equipped with vortex generators on delivery, which have an additional noise-reducing effect. Detailed information on this topic is available here.

Aviation fans already had the opportunity to welcome the new Airbus model on January 22, when the A320neo landed for the first time at Frankfurt Airport. To capture the event, a video was produced, which can be watched here.

Frankfurt Airport has always been a pioneer in welcoming new generations of aircraft. To master the challenges that can be related to the introduction of new aircraft types, Fraport has always been closely cooperating with aircraft manufacturers and airlines. For example: Fraport was actively involved in the launch of the world’s largest passenger aircraft, the Airbus A380. From 2005, ground-handling trials and test flights with the A380 were conducted at Frankfurt Airport. In the summer of 2014, Fraport also welcomed the new Airbus A350 XWB on its test flight from Iqualit in the Canadian Arctic to Frankfurt.
