ARLINGTON, VA – The Consumer Technology Association (CTA)TM – formerly the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) – today announced sharing economy pioneer Airbnb and the world’s largest travel site TripAdvisor are now members of CTA, the trade association representing more than 2,200 companies in the US consumer technology industry.
“We’re excited and proud to welcome such influential innovators from the travel sector,” said Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, Consumer Technology Association. “Consumer technology is constantly evolving at the speed of innovation. Just look at Airbnb – with more than two million listings worldwide only seven years after its founding, the company is transforming old business models. And TripAdvisor not only crowdsources information for consumers, it also facilitates peer-to-peer accommodations. These cutting-edge companies are rapidly and efficiently driving the new sharing economy.”
“We’re looking forward to being a member of the Consumer Technology Association,” said Airbnb Head of Global Policy and Public Affairs, Chris Lehane. “CTA stands for policies that allow consumers to fully enjoy the sharing economy and the innovation it delivers, and we look forward to working with them to advocate for the right of everyday people to share their homes in order to generate supplemental income and to provide a travel option that allows everyone to belong anywhere.”
“As a company that is passionate about innovating on behalf of our community of millions of travelers to help them plan and book their trips, TripAdvisor is pleased to join the Consumer Technology Association,” said Barbara Messing, chief marketing officer of TripAdvisor.
In November, CTA launched its Disruptive Innovation Council to communicate with and educate lawmakers, regulators and the general public about the benefits innovative companies bring to the marketplace. The Council’s roster includes disruptive innovators Airbnb, Boingo, DJI, Expedia, Inc., Google, GoPro, Lyft, MC10, Nest, Pandora, TripAdvisor, Uber, WebMD and Yelp.
