Dubai second most expensive destination in the world to spend New Year’s Eve 2015

Dubai, the largest city in the United Arab Emirates, is the second most expensive destination in the world in which to spend this New Year’s Eve. That determination is according to a new survey from

The survey specifically looked at 30 major destinations around the world. It then established the rate for the cheapest available hotel room for each locale. The comparative timeframe used by the survey was December 30, 2015 to January 2, 2016 (3 nights). The survey excluded hotels that lacked a central location, were rated less than 3 stars and/or had a negative overall average rating from past guests.

An overnight stay in Dubai this year end into the New Year will cost guests $302. And that’s for the most affordable double room. In comparison to the general rate during the month of January, that price tag represents a hike of 176%.

Dubai comes in second only to Cancun, the most expensive New Year’s Eve destination according to the survey. The Mexican Caribbean resort town snagged the survey’s number one spot with a nightly rate of $311. That’s 274% more than a guest will pay for the same room on a typical January day. Rounding out the Top 3 is Miami Beach. This popular Florida resort town is charging $286 per night this year end, for an increase of almost 300% compared to regular rates.

Doha, the only other destination in the Middle East considered by the survey, is a lot more affordable. With a nightly rate of $82 for the least expensive double room, the capital city of Qatar ranks 23th out of 30. At the very bottom of the rankings are Bogota, Shanghai and Buenos Aires. There, travelers will likely be able to find a room for about $40 per night over the New Year’s Eve timeframe.
