LOS ANGELES, California – Green Globe announced re-certification of the Movenpick Hotel Amsterdam City Center in the Netherlands.

LOS ANGELES, California – Green Globe announced re-certification of the Movenpick Hotel Amsterdam City Center in the Netherlands. In line with Movenpick Hotels & Resorts philosophy to contribute to a positive future, this property has demonstrated corporate social responsibility and sustainable practices for the past few years.

โ€œThe award of this prestigious certification to our hotel is a satisfying recognition of all the extra efforts made last year in all aspects of operation,โ€ said Albert Rouwendal, General Manager at the Movenpick Hotel Amsterdam City Center and Director of Operations Benelux, โ€œOur goal is to ensure that company facilities and operations are in compliance with environmental standards, leaving a considerably smaller carbon footprint. Sustainability should be on top of everybodyโ€™s mind during daily business, and it is our objective to increase awareness among our staff and guests. We have to keep asking ourselves whether we can work more sustainable and continuously try to find the best possible solutions.โ€

A long-term sustainability management system is in effect at the Movenpick Hotel Amsterdam, and the property only uses 100% sustainable energy. Monthly energy and water consumption is recorded and benchmarked. The hotelโ€™s zero-impact policy encourages guests to support a carbon-neutral stay. Cleaning of bed linen and bathrooms are provided on request, or every two days, all cleaning products are non-toxic and eco-labeled. Waste volume, weight, and reduction goals are specified, a comprehensive reuse and recycle policy is in place. At Movenpick Hotel Amsterdam special effort is being made to choose local producers, and 90% of all products purchased by the hotel are produced by Dutch suppliers adhering to eco-friendly practices.

The Movenpick Hotel Amsterdam actively promotes the philosophy of volunteerism, and supports a number of local programs, contributing to a positive environment. Staff members volunteer with โ€œLaat ze maar lachen,โ€ a local foundation that organizes activities for children, who live a life below poverty line. Regular donations are being made to โ€œVonk,โ€ a research program to fight special types of child cancer, and developing new medications to cure more patients.

Green Globe Certificationโ€™s CEO, Guido Bauer, commented: โ€œWe are delighted to award re-certification to the Movenpick Hotel Amsterdam City Center. Movenpick Hotels & Resorts has taken a systematic approach to measure all the operational savings that have been made through the reduction of energy and water usage and non-recyclable waste. At the same time real commitments have been made to support the communities who host their hotels and resorts.โ€
