In Haiti, two people died from the storm. A man was killed by a boulder that came loose from the rain, and a woman died trying to cross a flooded river in Camp-Perrin.

As Hurricane Sandy heads for the US East Coast, it will mix with a winter storm and northern arctic air, and has earned the name by weather forecasters, โ€œFrankenstorm.โ€

New York City and New Jersey are expected to bear the brunt of this monster of a storm, but could reach as far inland as Ohio.

Meterologists are predicting US$1 billion in damage from gale-force winds, heavy rain, flooding, and possibly even snow beginning on Sunday, October 28 with the hurricane portion of the storm moving to the New Jersey shore on the morning of Tuesday, October 30. It is expected that the storm system will last beyond Halloween (October 31).

Once the hurricane hits, the effects will broaden to the coasts of Florida and Maine and inland from North Carolina. The effects, however, are not expected to be as intense as it moves inland.
