Australia hopes to cash in on Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman’s love affair in Baz Luhrmann’s latest film.

Australia is expected to do more for tourism than any other film since Crocodile Dundee in 1986.

Set in northern Australia in the 1930s, the film stars Kidman as Lady Sarah Ashley.

The English aristocrat comes to Australia to confront her husband, who she believes is having an affair while here selling their enormous cattle farm.

Lady Ashley travels across Australia with a drover (Jackman) and settles on the farm, falling in love with her companion and the country.

Spanning 10 years, Australia also captures the turmoil of the Japanese bombing of Darwin in World War II.

Previews of the film have showed magnificent landscapes of the Australian outback and the harsh conditions settlers faced.

Tourism Australia is developing a campaign to coincide with the film’s release.

The film also stars David Wenham, Bryan Brown, Jack Thompson, Ben Mendelsohn and David Gulpilil.

Australia is Luhrmann’s first film since Moulin Rouge in 2001.

It is expected to open in cinemas around the country on November 13.
