The Grenada Board of Tourism is elated to announce that Grenada has won the 3rd place position in the Senior Division of the 2012 FCCA Foundation Children’s Essay Contest. Ms. Kinza Andrew of St. Joseph’s Convent in Grenville had submitted what the Grenada Board of Tourism considered as the best essay in the senior division of the annual competition. This was then forwarded to the organizers in Florida, USA, to be judged alongside the other entrants from the wider Caribbean.

Apart from Kinza’s essay, the Grenada Board of Tourism also submitted the essay from Rache Bowen of the Florida Government School, since it was adjudged the best essay received in the junior division. The theme of the contest was, “What are the memories you would like a cruise passenger to walk away with after visiting your destination?”

The recently-released results show that as the third placed winner in her age group, Kinza Andrew will be awarded a cash scholarship of US$1,000 by the FCCA, with the St. Joseph’s Convent Grenville also receiving a monetary award of US$1,000. Rache will be awarded US$200 for being the winner at the local level of the junior division.

This achievement in the essay competition comes on the heels of even greater success earlier in the year when 10-year-old Enya Noel of Westmorland School won the coveted first prize in the FCCA Poster Competition. This resulted in her being awarded US$3,000, with the school getting a similar amount. Montana Japaul, who is another student from the St. Joseph’s Convent in Grenville, will also be awarded US$200 for the poster that she submitted in the senior division.

The Grenada Board of Tourism congratulates all of the winners and their schools, and urges that future competitions will witness a similar level of participation by schools throughout the nation.
