LONDON – Strike action by fire fighters at Highlands and Islands Airports is back on following a breakdown in pay talks.

Unite the Union had called off industrial action planned for June 9 and joined meetings with the employers and ACAS to try and resolve the issue. However, employers’ hands are tied by the Scottish government and an agreement could not be reached.

Donald Munro, Unite Regional Industrial Organizer said, “Despite talks between Unite and the management, no progress was made yesterday. At close of discussions we responded positively to the managing director’s written request to refer the claim to independent arbitration.

Our understanding is that he is communicating with the Scottish government to get authorization. In the meantime, we have given notice of strike action to take place on Monday, June 23 and Friday, July 4.”
