SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – The Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company (PRTC), Terestella Gonzalez Denton, today announced an increase in air service to the island. Following a series of meetings that the Puerto Rican government held with airlines to continue to increase air access from destinations in the United States and abroad, JetBlue Airways and Continental Airlines recently announced new flights to the island.

“Since 2005, we have been working with the airlines to integrate them into our promotional and marketing initiatives, which are designed to support our destination in our major markets around the world,” said Gonzalez Denton, adding, “As of January of this year, we have strengthened our promotional efforts, working to increase our corporate marketing strategies with the goal of creating new flights that are not only convenient for consumers, but also profitable and self-sustainable for the airlines.”

New and increased service was announced earlier this week by JetBlue and Continental, which will expand seat capacity and route connectivity to Puerto Rico.

PRTC is continuing to develop and increase strategic efforts to ensure that the airlines serving the island provide consumers with a wide variety of flight options to Puerto Rico. Currently, the island is served by American Airlines, American Eagle, Air Tran, Cape Air, Continental, Delta, Jet Blue, Spirit, Air Tran, United and US Airways, among others.

For travel between the United States and Puerto Rico, no passport is required. The Puerto Rico Tourism Company also offers an online reservation system for a variety of accommodations including Paradores – small inns that offer island charm at an affordable price.
