ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (eTN) – US Pakistan relations are becoming cordial after the reopening of NATO cargo service from Pakistan. Howevere there are certain issues Pakistan is going to take with the CIAโ€™s top leadership, including cross-border attacks on Pakistani soldiers from the Afghan national army.

Armed forces sources confirmed that Lieutenant General Muhammad Zahir Ul Islam, Director General ISI, will visit the USA from August 1-3. This will be a service-to-service bilateral visit, wherein he will meet his counterpart, General David H. Petraeus, Director of the CIA, to table his grievances regarding constant alleged attacks of the Afghan National Army to checkposts of Pakistan in the Dir and Chitral areas. Around 60 Pakistani soldiers have been killed in such attacks during the last 9 months.

Meanwhile, Kabul has regularly accused elements in Islamabad’s government and army of backing militants fighting the US-backed Kabul government, charges denied by Pakistan. Recently, Afghanistan has held Pakistan directly responsible for hundreds of rocket strikes on the heavily-forested Afghan border province of Kunar. On the other hand, Pakistan has previously accused Kabul of not doing enough to wipe out militant bases in Afghan border areas like Kunar. Both Afghanistan and Pakistan had previously accused the Taliban of carrying out the attacks on Kunar, as part the militant group’s insurgency plaguing both sides of the border.

According to sources, this issue is top on the agenda of US-Pak talks in August.
