Eastern Airways has taken delivery of a second Embraer 145 regional aircraft increasing the number of Embraer jets in its fleet to four.

The UK’s second largest regional airline operates a fleet of 30 aircraft consisting of a mix of jet and turbo-prop aircraft which are used on UK domestic services, French, Belgian and Norwegian scheduled flights and private charter services.

The second Embraer 145 aircraft to enter service with Eastern Airways complements the two similar looking 37-seater Embraer 135 jets, which the company reintroduced in June 2010.

The Brazilian manufactured Embraer 145 jet (serial number 145300) has 49 seats and a longer fuselage than the 37-seater Embraer 135 aircraft. Two Rolls Royce A3007 jet engines power the aircraft, which has a cruising speed of 521mph.

This latest addition to the fleet will be assigned predominantly to the charter flying programme serving blue-chip companies, oil and gas organisations, corporations, sports teams, the music industry, delegations and individual groups flying across the UK, Western and Eastern Europe.

Chris Holliday, Eastern Airways’ chief operating officer, said: “Last year’s reintroduction of the Embraer 145 proved very popular with the charter market, and due to demand, we have now added another of this series type to our fleet. As and when required this new addition will fly on the scheduled network, as well as charter services and gives us tremendous flexibility having 37 seat and 50 seat jets available serving Europe.”

Eastern Airways celebrates its 15th anniversary this year and flies from 21 airports in the UK, Belgium, Norway and France. It also has eight 50-seater Saab 2000 aircraft in its fleet and is the largest operator of 29-seater British Aerospace Jetsteam 41 aircraft in the world with 18.
