GCB Americas, New York, N.Y. – Germany has again held its position as one of the leading global destinations for meetings and conventions in the just announced study results from the International Congress & Convention Association (ICCA). The annual ICCA statistical study “International Association Meetings Market” evaluates the trends in the international meetings market and studies association meetings with at least 50 participants, which take place regularly and rotate among at least three countries.

For the eighth year, the study showed that Germany is the top location in Europe for association meetings; globally, Germany occupies second place only to the U.S. in the number of international association conventions hosted.

In 2011, the experts counted a total of 577 international association meetings in Germany – an increase of 35 over the previous year – and considerably more than Spain, which hosted 463 conventions, and the United Kingdom with 434 events.

According to the ICCA city rankings, Berlin also holds a strong fourth place in the global rankings for cities with 147 international association meetings held in 2011, nine more than in the previous year. Berlin continues to be ahead of Singapore and Madrid but remains behind Vienna with181 association meetings, Paris with 174 and Barcelona with150 in 2011.
