Skål would like to encourage all Skål clubs and members to participate in the awards program or to propose projects which they are aware of and who are not necessarily from Skål members and not only in their country, but anywhere else in the world.
Skål International continues to strengthen its deep commitment to sustainability in tourism and to highlight best practices in tourism around the globe with the presentation of the “Sustainable Development in Tourism” awards. These awards, which have been favorably received throughout the world, have demonstrated proven success since its launch in 2002, the Year of Ecotourism and the Mountains, as per the declaration of the United Nations. Skål strongly encourages all members, clubs, and national committees to look for prospective entries in their region that qualify under the criteria set out in the guidelines for these awards.
The “Sustainable Development in Tourism” awards will be presented during the opening ceremony of the 73rd Skål World Congress to be held in Incheon, Korea, on Wednesday, October 3, 2012.
For the second consecutive year, the main sponsor, Diversey, will produce the trophies and certificates handed over to the winners in each category. In addition, they will also present a Special Recognition Award to one of the entries entering the competition that meets with some criteria set up by Diversey.
