The Queensland government has announced an immediate injection of $4 million for the state’s tourism industry after Qantas and Jetstar scaled back domestic and international flight services.

The decision by Premier Anna Bligh was made after Tourism Minister Desley Boyle met with high level national tourism heads yesterday afternoon to discuss the impact of the flight cuts.

The money has been made on top of the $63.49 million handed out in this week’s state budget.

Ms Boyle said the extra funds would minimise the impact on tourism operators and organisations from the tip of the Cape to Coolangatta.

She said she was talking to Prime Minister Kevin Rudd for Federal Government assistance for further funding.

She will meet with industry representatives in the next few days and has received special leave from Parliament today to fly to Cairns to meet with local tourism operators.
