Easter tourism to generate over US$60 million from restaurants in Lima Peru

According to the Lima Chamber of Commerce (CCL), restaurants and bars will see US$60.5 million during this year’s Easter holidays, thanks to an increase in the number of tourists traveling in Peru.

Adolfo Perret, with the CCL, said the increase in tourism, hospitality, and retail industries has helped to boost the growth of Peruvian food and restaurants.

Perret said that investments in these three areas would exceed US$4.500 million over the next 5 years, reported El Comercio.

Last year, Perret said, approximately 800,000 restaurants in Peru contributed 15.6 billion soles, to the country’s economy.

“In Peru, 48 percent of restaurants are located in the capital […] the restaurant sector represents 3.2 percent of national GDP,” Perret said.

He added that last year activity in the restaurant businesses grew 9.4 percent, compared to 2010.

Perret said that the percentage of households in metropolitan Lima that were consuming food and beverages out of their homes has been growing in recent years, from 25 percent in 2001 to 31 percent in 2009.
