Kader Miller from the Cape Town Box in Cape Town traveled to Seychelles with an impressive delegation of musicians to participate in the 2012 Carnaval International de Victoria that is staged annually in the Seychelles, and they did their country proud was the assessment by press from the world over.

This is the second year running that a delegation from South Africa has been present at the โ€œCarnival of Carnivalsโ€ parading alongside the greats of the carnival world such as Notting Hill from the UK, Trinidad & Tobago, and Rio.

Thirty-three international delegations participated at this yearโ€™s edition co-hosted by Seychelles and La Reunion, which carnival observers have said was better than the 2011 edition, and that the event had now firmly established itself on the worldโ€™s events calendar.

South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Madagascar were the three African countries who sent official delegations to Seychelles for the carnival, and Kenya on its part was represented by the Chairman of their Tourism Board. That 2012 carnival was attended by Mr. Taleb Rifai, the UNWTO Secretary General.

โ€œThe โ€˜Carnival of Carnivalsโ€™ that is staged annually in the Seychelles remains a great platform for the Community of Nations to showcase their people, their culture, and the plusses of their respective countries. No country should be ashamed or shy to showcase their people and their culture as these remain USPs (Unique Selling Points) for every country and for every Tourism Authority. In Seychelles at the annual Indian Ocean Carnival, everyone has been invited to do just that. Thirty-three countries rallied this year to bring their people and culture to the eyes of the many, many press gathered to cover the event. We just hope that those who missed out this year take time to prepare themselves for next year,โ€ said Alain St.Ange, the CEO of the Seychelles Tourism Board.
