HONOLULU, Hawaii (eTN) – Two male tourists were on their way back to Kewalo Basin yesterday (Sunday, January 29, 2012) on the island of Oahu in Hawaii, tandem gliding in the air on an X-Treme Parasail, when something came loose and the sail disconnected from the boat. The two men fell into the water and were then dragged about a thousand feet before they could be rescued.
It was the crew from another parasailing company, Hawaiian Parasail, who was able to aid in their rescue. According to a spokesperson for Hawaiian Parasail, they had seen the parachute disconnect. They landed their own customer, and then went to help.
According to Coast Guard officials, both men are from Palm Springs, California. Their names have not yet been released, however, the younger male, 52, has since been released from the hospital; the 66-year-old remains in critical condition.
X-Treme Parasail has yet to release any comments.
