At 1854 UTC on Friday, October 28, 2011, a 6.9 magnitude earthquake shook Peru. The center of the quake was located 32 miles SSW of the town of Ica, and 178 miles SSE of the capital of Lima.
No tsunami warning was issued and there have been no reports of deaths caused by the quake.
Some residents have lost power and phone service, and a report indicated a cathedral wall, church tower, and some mud brick buildings had collapsed.
