La Palm Royal Beach Hotel has been adjudged Ghana’s Leading Hotel at the just-ended World Travel Awards 2011 Africa & Indian Ocean ceremony organized in Egypt.

La Palm Royal Beach Hotel has been adjudged Ghana’s Leading Hotel at the just-ended World Travel Awards 2011 Africa & Indian Ocean ceremony organized in Egypt.

The wholly-owned Ghanaian hotel, which is a member of the Golden Beach Hotels, was nominated by travel professionals, the traveling public, tour operators, transport owners, and tourism organization professionals from about 164 countries worldwide.

Chief Operating Officer Grace Quainoo, speaking on Citi FM’s “Breakfast Show” on Thursday said La Palm Royal Beach Hotel came up against competition from Golden Tulip Accra and Novotel Accra City and “this award separates the good from the outstanding, so we won.”

La Palm, which has been in existence for over 12 years, was previously 70 percent Ghanaian owned, and until this year, the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) took over 100 percent.

The hotel currently has the biggest convention center, which can cater to about 3,000 people and holds about 12 conference rooms, which can sit about 1,000 delegates.

There is an expansion project ongoing at the hotel to increase its capacity, but currently the hotel has 152 standard rooms, junior and presidential suites, 8 restaurants and bars, and the largest swimming pool in Ghana.

It has, also as part of the refurbishment, purchased 2 limousine-style golf carts, which can now drive guests to their rooms in leisure.

The hotel is currently embarking on a campaign dubbed “One Hotel, endless possibilities” where different packages are offered to customers depending on their budget.
