PORT CANAVERAL – The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has announced the first K9 teams dedicated to enhancing explosives detection capabilities at a cruise ship port. While K9 teams work in airport terminals, air cargo facilities and mass transit nationwide, the two Port Canaveral teams are the first dedicated to a cruise ship port. The two teams will work in conjunction with a newly deployed team at Sanford International Airport (SFB.) That partnership is also the first of its kind in the nation.

The TSA trained and certified teams will be handled by Port Canaveral Police and Sanford Police at SFB. The new teams will enhance flexibility in these transportation environments and allow a surge of resources when there is a heightened threat.
