Carlson announces the Radisson Blu Hotel Dehradun in India

SINGAPORE – Carlson, a family-owned, global hospitality and travel company, today announced the signing of the first international hotel in Dehradun, India.

Dehradun is in Uttarakhand State, about 250 kilometers north of India’s capital city, New Delhi. The USD 25 million Radisson Blu Hotel Dehradun is owned by Sir Biotech India Limited. Construction of the 125-room hotel will commence in September this year and the hotel is expected to open in the second quarter of 2014.

“The signing of this hotel brings our India portfolio, both open and under development to 89 hotels with more than 10,000 rooms,” said Simon C. Barlow, president, Carlson Hotels, Asia Pacific. “We are delighted to continue to be the number one international hotel operator in India. Our plan is to open 100 hotels in India by 2015, as part of Carlson’s Ambition 2015 growth strategy.”

“In recent years, Dehradun has established itself as a thriving information technology and commercial center. The collaboration with Carlson and the debut of the first-class Radisson Blu brand in Dehradun will set the benchmark for world-class hospitality in a city that is witnessing a growing number of domestic and international visitors,” said Yuvraj Dalmia, director, Sir Biotech India Limited.

The six-story hotel will be designed by Italian architect Giampiero Peia. Peia is well-known for his commercial and residential projects in China, France, Ghana, the Indian Andaman Islands, Italy, Malaysia and Qatar.

The hotel’s elegant guest rooms will offer signature Radisson Blu services such as complimentary high speed Internet access. Guests will have a variety of dining options including an all-day dining restaurant, a specialty Indian restaurant, a lively bar and a contemporary lobby lounge. Guests seeking leisure and recreational facilities can relax at the spa or enjoy the health club and swimming pool facilities. The hotel will also feature several meeting rooms and ballrooms.

The Radisson Blu Hotel Dehradun will be located adjacent to the Dehradun – Mussoorie highway, providing easy connectivity to Mussoorie, a hill station popular with local tourists.
