Keeping Hawaii tourism honest

HONOLULU, Hawaii – The Hawaii Tourism Association (HiTA) today opened the floor to anyone wanting to comment, praise, or criticize Hawaii’s tourism industry. HITA has long been known as outspoken when it comes to issues related to Hawaii tourism.

“This is a chance to let our visitors speak. In Hawaii we say we want to “talk story.” We are looking forward to learning about the best and the worst in visitors’ experiences,” said HiTA President Juergen T. Steinmetz,
“We hope visitors, tourism stakeholders, the media, and officials will learn from what our visitors have to say. This forum is open to anyone.”

The Hawaii Tourism Association is not affiliated with any private business or state agency. It is a group of independent volunteers with a mission to make tourism better for the state. Hawaii heavily relies on the tourism industry to generate income, so it is important, to the say the least, that visitors have a positive experience when visiting the islands.

“Since HiTA was started, we’ve seen many shortcomings and many positive examples over the last 2 1/2 years. This is why we are inviting tourists, the travel industry and media to “talk story” with us about their experience. We hope to learn about the quality of our tourism products, including airlines, hotels and resorts, attractions, beaches, hiking facilities, infrastructure, shopping, restaurants, and nightclubs – we want to hear it (bad or good). We would also like to hear from those who live and work here as well. Visitors should tell us about how they collected information about Hawaii, how the booking process was. The opportunity to anyone and everyone to speak up and discuss tourism in our islands is now. We want people to tell us how we can keep our tourism stakeholders honest and how we might improve the visitor experience,” added Steinmetz.

HiTA receives no funding, therefore, advertising is not allowed in this the forum. Besides that, it’s a simple format. “We want to encourage anyone that has a good or a bad experience with Hawaii as a destination, with any of our attractions, hotels, and/or tour operators, to go to http://www.hawaiitourismassociation.com and speak up,” Steinmetz concluded.

ABOUT THE HAWAII TOURISM ASSOCIATION

The Hawaii Tourism Association’s (HITA) mission is to inform, educate, and update the global travel industry on current and emerging trends, economics, events, activities, businesses, and marketing that help shape the tourists’ perception of the Hawaiian Islands. HITA serves as a discussion forum for issues affecting industry members interested in doing business in Hawaii, while also working with new markets and regions expressing interest in visiting the Islands. The association offers member services that enhance the Hawaiian experience and promote the indigenous people, culture, and uniqueness which differentiates the most geographically-remote place on Earth from other island sand-sun-surf vacation and business destinations.
