LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Singapore Airlines Airbus A380 is now serving Los Angeles, with the inaugural flight having departed Tokyo Narita at 7:31 p.m. with over 444 customers on board.

The superjumbo, operating as flight SQ12, is scheduled to make its maiden touchdown in Los Angeles at 1:00 p.m. local time. The City of Angels is the eighth destination in Singapore Airlines’ network and its first point in North America to receive the world’s largest commercial aircraft. To commemorate the celebratory occasion, all customers on the flight were treated to a round of champagne specially uplifted for the inaugural journey.

The Singapore Airlines A380 has proven exceptionally popular with customers, with strong loads on all routes it serves. System-wide, more than 5 million customers have flown on Singapore Airlines’ A380s since the inaugural flight of the superjumbo in October 2007.

“The introduction of the A380 to Los Angeles is another wonderful milestone in our history. We have had the privilege of serving customers on this route since 1980, and we are proud to be able to introduce our flagship aircraft to North America. We are confident that our customers will appreciate the industry-leading cabin products available on the A380,” said Mr. Mak Swee Wah, Singapore Airlines’ Executive Vice President Commercial.

Singapore Airlines was the first carrier to operate the A380 in October 2007. Since the start of commercial service, the aircraft have clocked around 128,000 flying hours on more than 13,000 flights. The Airline currently has 12 A380s in service and seven more on firm order.

The Singapore Airlines A380 features the new Singapore Airlines Suites, where each Suite is the customer’s very own private cabin in the sky, replete with a luxurious and fully adjustable leather seat upholstered by world-renowned Poltrona Frau, as well as a full-sized bed and a sleek 23-inch high-resolution LCD monitor.

It is also configured with the new award-winning full-flat Business Class seat, the widest in its class at 34 inches, in a spacious 1-2-1 configuration. The new Economy Class seat also delivers more comfort and legroom thanks to the use of innovative design features.

Customers can unwind in the comfort of their seats, enjoying the epicurean delights specially created by the world-renowned chefs on our International Culinary Panel, while taking in the more than 1,000 entertainment choices available on the new KrisWorld, Singapore Airlines’ state-of-the-art inflight entertainment system.
