Eva Airways on track for weekend launch in Guam

TUMON, Guam – The Guam Visitors Bureau (GVB) is pleased to announce the inaugural direct flight for Taiwan-based EVA Airways is on track for arrival at A.B. Won Pat International Airport in Guam on Saturday, June 18 at 5:30 pm.

In a unique twist, EVA Airways CEO Kuo-Wei Chang will be piloting the B777-300, which is expected to carry 35 airline executives, Taiwan travel agents and media, along with more than 200 arriving visitors.

Following the inaugural flight, passengers will be served by twice weekly flights from Taipei aboard Airbus A330-200 with a capacity of 252 passengers.

โ€œWeโ€™ve been anticipating the arrival of direct flights aboard EVA Airways since early this year, so itโ€™s exciting to know they will arrive on Guam in a few days,โ€ said GVB General Manager Joann Camacho. โ€œThis market has seen great growth in the past five years, and this will only help continue that trend.โ€

EVA Airways flights will depart from Taipei at 10:45 pm each Tuesday and Saturday, arriving on Guam at 4:40 am on Wednesday and Sunday, respectively. Departures from Guam will be scheduled 6:10 am each Wednesday and Sunday and arrive on Taipei at 8:15 am the same day.

GVB preliminary data shows a steady 36.7 percent increase from January through May 2011 in Taiwan arrivals compared to 2010. Most passengers arrive from Taipei and Taichung.
