“Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay Resort & Spa raised SR107,250 for the Indian Ocean Islands Games fund through that dinner,” a happy and satisfied Ken Choo, the resort’s General Manager, told the press at the end of the evening.

The Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay Resort & Casino organized with the support of the Seychelles Tourism Board a fund-raising dinner with a difference. “This evening is a rather typical Seychelles styled โ€œDinner under the Starsโ€ evening. This evening forms part of the new Seychelles brand concept of tourism,” said Ken Choo, the General manager of the Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay Resort & Casino when he opened the fund-raising evening in the presence of the Seychelles Designated Minister Mr. Vincent Meriton who is also the government Minister heading all arrangements for the Indian Ocean Islands Games; Alain St.Ange, the CEO of the Seychelles Tourism Board; and HE Mathew Forbes, the British High Commissioner; and Mrs. Forbes. The Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay Resort & Spa dinner also marked a successful venture between the private sector and the public sector.

The sportsmen and sportswomen of Seychelles who attended the fund-raising dinner got a clear message from the General Manager in his speech: โ€œWe all want you to know, irrespective of which industry we are from, that we are behind you every step of the way to excel for Seychelles. To all the performing artist friends performing in this ‘One Night Only Special,’ we thank you for supporting your brothers and sisters in sports,โ€ Ken Choo said as he addressed the evening.

Alain St.Ange said, when he took the podium, that the fund-raising evening was a happy day for the tourism industry, as it showed the commitment by the tourism industry players for what is being promoted as sports tourism. “The Seychelles brand of tourism launched by President James Michel as his vision for the country’s tourism industry placed emphasis on the development of domestic tourism and sports tourism, as it promoted the concept of us being an events-based destination. The coming games are part and parcel of the new vision for Seychelles, and tonight I congratulate Ken Choo and the Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay Resort & Spa for standing behind the coming games,” Alain St.Ange said.

Minister Vincent Meriton also thanked the Berjaya Resort when he took the podium: “As I thank Ken Choo and the Berjaya Resort, the Seychelles Tourism Board, and everyone who is standing with the government to deliver the best Indian Ocean Islands Games ever organized, I also use this opportunity to tell the atheles that we are counting on them to make us proud.” Minister Vincent Meriton also used the opportunity to appeal to the Seychelles business community to dig into their pockets to help the government meet the financial target set for the Indian Ocean Islands Games.

Minister Vincent Meriton and Alain St.Ange were then invited to join Ken Choo to unveil a blown-up version of the games mascot and a โ€œDonation Boxโ€ at the front office of the hotel.
