Travel domain broadens reach of El Salvador tourism

Knowing that a .travel name would automatically link El Salvador as a tourism destination, the country tourism office purchased its name in 2006.

Knowing that a .travel name would automatically link El Salvador as a tourism destination, the country tourism office purchased its name in 2006. “We chose to purchase our .travel address as it clearly links our country as a tourism destination,” commented Ruben Rochi, then Minister of Tourism for El Salvador when the site was initially launched, “It helps accelerate the positioning process in this very competitive, global travel market.”

Currently, work is being done for a re-launch of its website, ElSalvador.travel. The initial launch of the El Salvador website brought tremendous growth to the country’s tourism, and current Minister of Tourism Jose Napoleon Duarte has authorized a project to increase information on the .travel website.

A web page on the ElSalvador.travel website will be called “Tourist Promotion sheets for El Salvador.” The project involves a professional team visiting different tourist places in the country to collect information, pictures, and videos which will then be processed and published on the website. The project is being performed in each tourist route, municipalities listed as “Pueblos Vivos,” every tourist destination place (waterfalls, parks, viewpoints, cities, etc.), and places which may contain a tourism potential in the metropolitan area of San Salvador and major cities (parks, museums, galleries, churches, etc.). Also included will be typical food and drink recipes of El Salvador.

Every tourist sheet will contain: an informative text of the attractions and activities that can be performed, places to stay and eat, and how to reach places, online references, and contacts. There will be an English translation of every tourist sheet, between 5 to 15 professional photographs, and a video with voiceover in Spanish and English subtitles. The project will be completed by the end of 2011.

With beautiful beaches, and many adventure and eco-tourism options, El Salvador is a gem to discover in Central America. Although relatively undiscovered and new to the global travel scene, El Salvador is quickly becoming a choice destination in Central America.

El Salvador is becoming increasingly popular among tourist travelers due to its beautiful climate and variety of attractions featuring some of the most breathtaking volcanoes and beaches in the world. From the Santa Ana volcano, which is the largest in the Pacific volcanic chain, to Los Cobanos beach, where you can find some of the best scuba diving in the world, one will surely find the activity of choice in El Salvador.
