LOS ANGELES, California – Green Globe Certification announced Mövenpick Resort & Spa Tala Bay Aqaba has been certified for its sustainable operation and management. The Jordan-based resort achieved an outstanding 91percent of all criteria in its first audit and is now Green Globe’s leading certified travel and tourism business operating to the world’s highest environmental standards.

Mövenpick Resort & Spa Tala Bay Aqaba is also the first property in the Swiss chain’s portfolio to receive the sustainability certification as part of Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts’ global Green Globe roll-out program.

Hubert Klemenz, General Manager of Mövenpick Resort & Spa Tala Bay Aqaba, said, “Green Globe certified status is the icing on the cake, following on from our certifications under Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) and ISO 22000.

“It demonstrates the resort’s strong commitment to the principles of environmental protection and most importantly, reflects the company’s determination to implement sustainable practices today to ensure a better tomorrow.”

Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts has targeted 20 percent of its hotels, resorts, and cruises to be certified sustainable by Green Globe by the end of 2011. By 2013, all Mövenpick properties will have met the Green Globe Certification Standard and carry the Green Globe Certification stamp. This strategy is part of a company-wide program to establish a common and global approach to environmental, employer, and social sustainability.

Mr. Guido Bauer, CEO of Green Globe Certification, said, “The resort has set a new precedent as the first in the Mövenpick chain to be Green Globe certified and in addition to have achieved the highest ranking ever in the Green Globe program.

“Having met 91percent of the criteria contained in the Green Globe Certification Standard shows that the resort’s operational and management team have a precision focus on environmental management through conservation of energy and water, the reduction of waste, as well as engagement with their community,” added Mr. Bauer.
