LOS ANGELES, California – Thai Airways International Public Company Limited (THAI) will once again participate in the Songkran Festival (Thai New Year Festival) being held in Thai Town in Hollywood, California, on Sunday, April 3, 2011. This year marks the 8th year of the Songkran Festival in Los Angeles and is expected to bring in over 30,000 visitors.

“We are thrilled to be participating again this year. Songkran Festival is one of the most important holidays to Thai people. We are excited to celebrate it with our Thai community here in the US and all those who are interested in learning about our culture,” said Mr. Sutsveta Svetasobhana, THAI’s General Manager of USA, Central and South America.

THAI is increasing domestic flights during the Songkran period to meet passenger demands. Increased domestic flights from Bangkok to Chiang Mai, Phuket, and Krabi will begin April 12-17, 2011. THAI currently offers the only nonstop service to Bangkok with daily flights from Los Angeles.

The Songkran Festival is celebrated in Thailand as the traditional New Year’s Day from April 13-15. During the festival, individuals throw water on each other, as it is believed to purify one’s soul and eliminate evil spirits.

The Songkran Festival starts from 9:00 am–8:00 pm on April 3, 2011 between Western and Normandie in Hollywood, California. Key event highlights include: Tastes of Thai food, Muay Thai Boxing, Water Blessing Ceremony, Thai Traditional Attire Fashion Show, Live music and entertainment, Miss Thai New Year USA Contest, Singha Beer Garden, Free health screening, and more!
