Bearing out provisional international visitor figures recently released by Attorney General and Minister for Tourism, Mr Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, Fiji is bang on target to attract record breaking numbers across 2010.

The Ministerโ€™s provisional figure release, which show Fiji will have welcomed some 620,000 international visitors in 2010, has been reinforced by actual Fiji Bureau of Statistic numbers for October released this week.

These show the destination welcomed more than 59,290 international visitors in October 2010 with strong percentage gains achieved, particularly in Australia, China and India.

The 59,290 result represents an 11.36 per cent increase over the 53,243 achieved in October 2009.

More to the point it brings visitor arrival figures for the period January-October 2010 to 527,822 โ€“ a massive 17.59 percent increase over the 448,916 figure achieved across the same 10 month period in 2009.

Australian numbers again continued to dominate Fijiโ€™s overall visitor arrival picture.

The 32,101 figure recorded for the month constitutes a huge 54.14 per cent of the total 59,290 visitor arrival total achieved in October.

The 32,101 figure brings the total of Australian visitor arrivals for the 10-month period to 263,494.

This in itself represents a six per cent increase over the 248,589 Australian visitor total Fiji achieved across the entire 12-month period January-December 2009.

New Zealand arrivals to Fiji in October also increased, the figures showing a total of 9368 New Zealanders visited the destination across the month.

This figure represents a 6.52 increase over the 8795 figure achieved for the same period in 2009 pushing Fijiโ€™s Kiwi intake for the 10 month period January-October 2010 to 84,869.

This equates to a 7.73 per cent increase over the 78,778 total achieved across the corresponding 10 month period in 2009.

US figures too showed positive growth increasing to 4246 for the month โ€“ a gain of 7.2 per cent over the 3961 achieved for the same period in 2009 โ€“ bringing US arrivals for the period January-October 2010 to 43,960.

This represents a 3.89 per cent increase over the 42,313 achieved for the corresponding 10 month period in 2009

Tourism Fiji and its industry partners continuing efforts in China and India have continued to bear fruit with both countries registering impressive percentage gains, 58.27 per cent and 51 per cent, respectively.
