With the launch of the “Connecting the World to the Seychelles” campaign, Emirates is stepping up its efforts to boost travel to the archipelago. In this context, three additional flights will be introduced on the Dubai-Seychelles route beginning March 28, 2011.

These flights will increase existing capacity by 42% per week, per direction, hence offering even more flexibility to leisure travelers around the world to visit the popular getaway. The campaign will also comprise special packages to the Seychelles, familiarization trips for tour operators and media groups, among other marketing activities.

Majid Al Mualla, Emiratesโ€™ Senior Vice President Commercial Operations, West Asia & Indian Ocean, said: โ€œEmirates started 2010 with only four flights to the Seychelles. In March 2011, we will operate ten flights to the archipelago. The fact that we have more than doubled our frequency to the Seychelles in a little more than a year demonstrates the robustness and efficiency of our efforts on this route. We have consistently created awareness around the attractions of the archipelago in various markets and now, with the new campaign being unrolled, we are increasing the intensity of our marketing drive.โ€

Mr. Al Mualla added: โ€œWe see ourselves as partners of the Seychelles. The introduction of three additional flights is a clear statement that we support the Seychelles tourism industry and we are confident to bring results in the short term.โ€

In line with the “Connecting the World to the Seychelles” campaign, Emirates will support the “Carnaval International de Victoria.” This carnival, which will take place from March 4-6, 2011, aims at showcasing the multi-racial and ethnic origins of the Seychelles under the theme “the melting pot of cultures.” Emirates will promote and create awareness around this major event in new markets such as Czech Republic, Spain, Brazil, Russia, the Middle East, India, Korea, China, and Japan.

Emirates has consistently promoted the island destination throughout its network. Every year, Emirates Holidaysโ€™ brochure โ€“ A World of Choice โ€“ dedicates a prominent part to the destination.

In 2010, 176,088 tourists visited the Seychelles, representing an increase of 11% over the previous year. Since the launch of Emiratesโ€™ service to the archipelago in 2005, the number of tourists from Russia and Asia has doubled. The Seychelles welcomed 9,929 tourists from the Middle East last year.
