From January 6, 2011, visitors to Jerusalem can enjoy nighttime tours of the City of David, every Thursday evening. Artistic lighting highlights the antiquities, with harp music in the King’s Garden enhancing the experience.

The evening experience begins with a nighttime overlook of the city at the City of David’s Hatzofeh lookout point. From this vantage point, visitors can begin to appreciate the unique location of the Biblical City of David in relationship to Jerusalem’s Old City walls. An impressive 3D movie of Jerusalem’s millennia of history is followed by a nighttime guided tour of the City of David site, accompanied by stunning lighting displays that highlight the newest archaeological discoveries from the Biblical period.

The tour continues to the Royal Quarter (Area G) where a new and artistic light show is screened against the backdrop of the antiquities, telling the story of the City of David through sounds and lights.

There are two ways to enjoy this experience. Visitors can choose to take the 75-minute Guided Tour in English at 2100 for a cost of 35 NIS (US$9.88) per adult and 25 NIS (US$7.06) per child. Advanced reservations recommended, or visitors can purchase a regular entrance ticket to the site at 25 NIS (US$7.06) per adult, 13 NIS (US$3.67) per child and enjoy the 3D movie and sound and light show.

The City of David will be open every Thursday until 2230 without interruption, with last entrance to the site at 2130.
