Some say that one’s man’s trash could be another man’s treasure. Well, this couldn’t be more true with the story of Clark International Airport, which before today not so long ago was a mere part of an abandoned military base–the United States’ Clark Subic Air Force Base.

As of last year, Clark International Airport was host to some 1.3 million passengers, making it force to be reckoned with not only in Philippine Aviation but in the whole global arena of airports. The plan is quite ambitious, according to the Victor Luciano, the CEO of Clark International Airports. The airport is positioning itself to become an “Incheon” airport type. It is quite an undertaking, as South Korea’s Incheon International Airport (located in Seoul) is currently among the world’s best airports.

I took the opportunity to speak to Luciano at the ongoing Routes World 2013 summit, which is currently being held in Las Vegas, Nevada. The summit in itself is historic in that this is the first time Routes has ever hosted its global summit in the United States.
