NAIROBI, Kenya – Kenya Airways (KQ), “The Pride of Africa,” has announced its expansion into Australia through a new codeshare agreement signed with Qantas, Australia’s national carrier, on October 15, 2010.

Under the agreement, Kenya Airways will codeshare on daily Qantas services between Bangkok and Sydney, while Qantas will codeshare on daily Kenya Airways services between Bangkok and Nairobi.

Kenya Airways Group managing director and CEO Dr. Titus Naikuni commented that the partnership between the two airlines will give KQ customers access to more destinations in Australia, while also providing Qantas passengers access to 41 destinations flown by KQ in Africa. According to Dr. Naikuni, “Kenya Airways seeks to strengthen its presence in Australia by offering better connection options to its passengers from Africa and our association with Qantas gives us an opportunity to offer our customers a seamless connection to and from Australia.”

Dr. Naikuni said he considers Australia to be a key market for passengers traveling for education, business, or leisure. He also noted that the majority of traffic from Australia would be comprised of tourists.
