Tourism chiefs are staging a major campaign to encourage Canadians to visit Edinburgh.

Officials at VisitScotland announced that they would be leading the drive this week as part of their Scotland In Toronto campaign.

Tourism chiefs are staging a major campaign to encourage Canadians to visit Edinburgh.

Officials at VisitScotland announced that they would be leading the drive this week as part of their Scotland In Toronto campaign.

Under the initiative, thousands of Canadians will be given the chance to trace their Scottish ancestry before being encouraged to visit the Capital.

The drive has been set up to complement the official Scotland Week celebrations, which take place across the rest of North America next week.

VisitScotland chairman Peter Lederer said: “Toronto was the obvious choice for this initiative given the importance of the Canadian market.

“Ontario, in particular, has non-stop flights from three airlines and approximately 1.6 million people who can claim Scots ancestry.”
