Colombo – Sri Lanka Department of Agriculture has decided to develop two spice gardens in the island in view of the resurgence in tourist industry following the end of war.
The two state-owned spice gardens are situated in Matale in the central hill country and Middeniya in Hambanthota district of South.
The Department has decided to increase the allocations for these spice parks. Earlier, the Department only allocated Rs. 2.5 million each for the spice gardens per year.
The tourists can gain knowledge on cultivation and processing of spices from these spice gardens.
Spice gardens attracted many tourists when they were operating well before the escalation of war that resulted in a collapse in tourist industry.
Sri Lanka is world famous for quality spice such as cinnamon, cardamom, black pepper, chilies, turmeric, and mustard etc.
