LOS ANGELES, California – Green Globe Certification supports the Foundation of Goodness – a Sri Lanka based charitable organization committed to improving the lives of people in rural communities in Sri Lanka.

Over the course of 2011/12 the Foundation of Goodness has worked relentlessly to make a difference to the lives of people in the Northern Province of Sri Lanka; lives which were devastated by the 26-years of civil war. Working in the Mankulam, Kilinochchi, Mullaitivu, and Eastern areas of Sri Lanka since January 2011, the Foundation of Goodness has positively affected more than 10,000 beneficiaries. The foundationโ€™s aim is to narrow the gap between urban and rural life in Sri Lanka by tackling poverty through productive activities.

โ€œIt is our vision to create a sustainable community model designed to inspire other regions and empower disadvantaged communities around the globe,โ€ said Kushil Gunasekera, Founder of the Foundation of Goodness. โ€œOur overall goal is to strengthen less privileged rural communities worldwide so that they may have equal opportunities to excel in life. Families need adequate shelter and access to appropriate services, sanitation and clean water, education has to be made affordable to everybody, cultural and religious needs should not be discriminated. We are dedicated to operate in a transparent and professional way, so that the rural poor receive maximum benefit from the generous donations made by our supporters.โ€

Sustainability of the rural environment is fundamental to the development of the village as part of a global community. The Foundation of Goodness implemented an Environmental Management Program that focuses on recycling, establishing home gardens, clean ups, and raising awareness for the local environment. Ongoing tree planting projects help replenishing foliage and protecting vulnerable coastal areas and inland waterways. While bio gas is already being used as an alternative fuel for cooking, the Foundation of Goodness is currently working on moving its entire electricity supply to solar power.

Green Globe Certificationโ€™s CEO, Guido Bauer, commented: โ€œWe happily support the Foundation of Goodness, an organization that impresses with their unconditional compassion. When the Tsunami struck the Sri Lanka coast on December 26, 2004, the Foundation of Goodness was able to respond quickly by mobilizing villagers, coordinating volunteer efforts and providing the emergency items needed. In the following months the Foundation of Goodness became a point of contact for donors wishing to help. The organization has a proven track record in disaster response and is deeply committed to peace-building and community development in this new and historic era for Sri Lanka.โ€
