A successful marriage between sports and tourism is what the Ministry of Tourism is proposing.

Minister Richard Sealy said in a recent interview with the Press Government was looking “at continuing to encourage the right mix of sporting activity that will appeal not only to our locals but to visitors”.

He said there was a wide variety of sports events on the island which were “integrated into our tourism product offerings”.

“There was a time when it was basically cricket, the road race and maybe a bit of sailing. Now you have golf polo, auto racing, tennis โ€“ a range of sporting activities.

“In fact, I maintain that for an island 15 by 21 there is no other place on the planet that you can find such a wide variety of sporting activities. So we have got to continue to develop this marriage and to see how we can use it as a comparative advantage to bring more visitors to this country,” the minister said.
