FRANKFURT, Germany – IMEX opened its doors to an anticipated 3,800 hosted buyers from across Europe and long-haul markets including North America, Russia, China, Brazil, South Africa, India, the Middle East, and Asia plus many thousands of trade visitors from around the world. All will have the opportunity to meet and do business with 3,500 different exhibitors from over 150 countries over the next three days.

The buying power, size, and resilience of the global association meeting market was demonstrated yesterday when almost 300 association meeting planners gathered for the eighth IMEX Association Day at the Messe Frankfurt Congress Centre. Here, association executives debated the shape of the sector’s future.

Fast Future Research launched a Pathfinder Report on the key strategic challenges and choices facing the industry over the next decade. The Pathfinder Report provides a glimpse of the content of the full phase 1 report to be released in July 2010 as part of the groundbreaking Convention 2020 study on the future of meetings, venues, and destinations. Smart strategies were the key to tackling inevitable surprises, and six critical strategic imperatives were laid out: clear positioning, future-focused boards, strategic innovation, leveraging data, business model experimentation, and top talent – all critical to shaping the industry’s future.
