US Airways ends cash transactions on domestic flights

The airline, the fifth-largest carrier at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport will continue to accept cash for food and drink purchases on flights between North America and other continents.

The airlineโ€™s menu includes snacks priced between $3 and $6 and meals as well as alcoholic beverages that cost $7.

In other developments, US Airways says its March passenger traffic remained flat from a year ago.

Fewer than 4.5 million passengers flew on US Airways last month, down from 4.52 million in March 2009.

Mainline revenue passenger miles came in at 4.9 billion, down 0.1 percent versus March 2009. Revenue passenger miles are a key airline industry gauge of a carrierโ€™s traffic.

The passenger-load factor, or percentage of filled seats, was 83.2 percent last month, up 81.9 percent from a year ago.

US Airways is based in Tempe, Ariz. The carrier operates more than 3,000 flights per day to 190 destinations.
