Gabrielle couldn’t wait to reveal where her family had chosen to visit for four days. “Fraser Island! We found soldier crabs!” she excitedly said.
If everyone is as enthusiastic about telling overseas visitors where to go as five-year-old Gabrielle Kleidon is, Tourism Australia’s latest campaign to bring tourists ashore will be a hit.
Tourism Australia’s managing director Andrew McEvoy is betting that others will be just as keen to upload their ideas, home or holiday stories, and snapshots to the marketing organization’s new website.
For Gabrielle’s brother James, home in Toowoomba is pretty good, too, with skate parks and plenty of places for bike riding, although for older residents Toowoomba was a little on the quiet side.
“It comes alive at Easterfest, the Carnival of Flowers, and the show, but otherwise it’s pretty boring, there’s not much night life,” Gowrie Junction resident Gaby Rogers and Toowoomba-based Taylor Olm agreed.
But for holidays, Miss Rogers was keen to head to either the Sunshine Coast or Yamba while Miss Olm preferred Brisbane for a break.
Toowoomba resident Liam Davies thought that any overseas visitors should put the Cobb & Co Museum and Toowoomba’s gardens on their sightseeing agendas, with the city providing an ideal location for a quiet holiday.
For him, Coolangatta provided the perfect holiday destination — not too over-developed, with a nice beach and still close to great shopping.
The Tourism Australia campaign urging Aussies to share what is great about where they live and where they like to holiday goes live from April 15 to May 12.
Anyone can upload their personal stories and photos of where they live and holiday in Australia to the website www.nothinglikeaustralia.com .
Tourism Australia will then use some entries to create an interactive map of Australia.
The best entries will also be used in online and print advertising around the world.
