Jetstar to restart Cairns-Osaka flights

Jetstar will reintroduce direct flights between Cairns in far north Queensland and the Japanese city of Osaka this week.

Jetstar will reintroduce direct flights between Cairns in far north Queensland and the Japanese city of Osaka this week.

The airline cancelled the service late in 2008, blaming the high Australian dollar and record oil prices.

The four weekly services between Cairns and Osaka will begin again on Thursday.

Jetstar spokesman Simon Westaway says the airline will also introduce 22 weekly services between Cairns, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide.

“There’s 10,000 additional seats Jetstar is bringing in to the Cairns market this week,” he said.

“The bulk of those are domestic but importantly, it’s a re-entry into the western Japan market with the reintroduction of a direct Cairns to Osaka service.

“All up, 10,000 extra reasons for people to come to Cairns.”
