Egypt’s tourism authorities ban fish feeding during diving tours

Egyptian authorities prohibit tourists from feeding fish during diving tours

Egyptian tourism authorities announced that foreign tourists will be instructed not to feed fish during diving tours.

Egypt’s tourists will also be asked not to break coral, do not throw garbage, food leftovers or chemicals into the sea. Cairo tourist authorities will strictly monitor the work of companies that organize diving tours.

The introduction of the new rules is needed, because the tourism industry adversely affects the marine flora and fauna, according to Egyptian environmentalists.

According to Egyptian media, at least 11.3 million tourists visited the country last year. 3 million vacationers, according to Egyptian media, plunged into the Red Sea with scuba gear.

As of now, the rules are just advisory in nature, but the Egyptian authorities vowed to strictly monitor their implementation.
