Jetstar Asia aids China earthquake survivors

Jetstar Asia has embarked on a donation drive on selected flights to provide aid to survivors of the horrific earthquake that rocked Sichuan province in China on May 12, 2008. Jetstar Asia is the first and only airline in Singapore to organize an in-flight donation drive for the earthquake survivors.

Beginning May 26, 2008, Jetstar Asia has begun collecting monetary donations on behalf of the Singapore Red Cross. All monies collected will be channeled to the Red Cross Society of China through the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, and used for relief efforts.

Jetstar Asia CEO Ms. Chong Phit Lian said, “My colleagues and I are saddened and shocked by the calamity that has struck millions of people in Sichuan, China. Although Jetstar Asia does not operate flights to China at the moment, our hearts are with the survivors and we are doing our best to help them with this donation drive. So far, we are getting a good response to the donation drive on our flights.”

Ms. Chong added, “Although our contribution is small in comparison to the massive aid needed to help the survivors who may have lost their families and homes, we believe every effort can make a difference.”

Donations are collected on selected flights and do not compromise the safety or comfort of Jetstar Asia passengers.
