Titus Naikuni, chief executive officer of Kenya Airways, was confirmed last week by President Kibaki as chairperson of the Police Reforms Implementation Committee, which is tasked to see through a package of measures and reforms worth many billions of Kenya shillings in the coming years.
Prior to joining Kenya Airways as CEO, Mr. Naikuni was at one time in the public sector as permanent secretary in the Ministry of Transport under the government of then President Moi, before returning to the private sector as CEO of Magadi Soda.
The commission is provided with wide-ranging powers, including the ability to subpoena and enforce, and the appointment was widely hailed as a smart move to put a serving and successful CEO of a major continental airline and leading company in eastern Africa at the helm of the new body to ensure success.
