OpenSkies, the new airline launched by British Airways to operate direct services from Europe to the US, intends to launch its first services on the route between Paris and New York JFK.
The airline has this week applied to the US authorities for approval for the services and says it intends to launch the new flights in June.
In documents filed with the US Department of Transportation, the airline says it intends to expand its services to connect Amsterdam, Brussels, Frankfurt and Milan with New York as well as other US points.
The airline will operate services using Boeing 757s fitted with 82 seats – 24 business class flat beds, 28 premium economy seats with a 52โ pitch and 30 economy seats. Onboard service will be โpremium in nature with a cosmopolitan feelโ, say the documents.
The launch of the services still face obstacles. BA pilots are currently being balloted by the union Balpa over a possible strike relating to terms and conditions for pilots joining the fledgling airline. The result of the ballot is due this week and may lead to strike action as early as the beginning of March.
