Reports from the Kenyan coast speak of plans by Flavio Briatore, the former Formula 1 Renault team chief, to build a major resort for the rich and famous in Malindi, where he reportedly also owns a private property. While still running the Renault F1 team, Briatore invested with F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone in the Queens Park Rangers football team, presently playing in the English Championship, while regularly visiting Kenyaโ€™s sunshine beaches for holidays and breaks.

Now free of the schedules and pressures of motor racing, it seems that Briatore has rediscovered his affection for Kenya and is set to build a resort on the beaches of Malindi, comprised of as many as 25 luxury suites and studios in a village setting.

Should the plans materialize, it would mean good news for Kenyaโ€™s tourism industry, as the spotlight of the rich and famous would surely return to the very place where Hemingway and other personalities of his days used to come for fishing and relaxing.
