JOHOR BAHARU – Malaysian Tourism Ministry will aggressively promote the Malaysian Automated Checkpoint System (MACS) to Singaporeans.

Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen said MACS which was introduced by the Immigration Department was expected to attract more tourists from the republic.

“Singaporeans with MACS stickers benefit from automated immigration processing, faster access using special lanes and are exempted from showing arrival cards,” he said after visiting the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex here Wednesday.

Ng said Tourism Malaysia would hold a seminar for Singapore tour operators this month on the benefit of MACS.

Holders of MACS stickers are charged RM30 annually provided they enter Malaysia at least four times monthly.

She said records showed that about 500 Singaporeans had signed up for MACS since it was introduced in July.

Some 10.5 million Singaporeans visited Malaysia in the first ten months of this year compared to 9 million for the corresponding period last year.
