Why to boycott Las Vegas Strip, MGM Resorts, Cesars Entertainment and Harrah’s

Tourism is everyone’s business and the livelihood of an entire state can depend on this industry. The State of Nevada, Hawaii, Florida are good examples.

eTurboNews article about warning against drinking the Water at MGM Hotels and Resorts in Las Vegas received a substantial number of feedbacks from those that travel to Sin City, and also from those that reside in the State of Nevada. Las Vegas resident Joseph Nucifora comment to this article and said: “Finally, someone has had the courage to write about the extortion of the Las Vegas strip’s main hotels.”

He continued to point out Caesar’s Entertainment (Harrah’s) being the other partners in crime with MGM.

“I am a resident and like to take quite a few “staycations” and quite frankly, have been boycotting the strip for this very reason.

The amounts of money these giants are charging are completely unjustifiable.
Not only do they charge $15.00 for a bottle of water and a $40-a night resort fee,ย  but they do have the audacity to charge for parking and even took the 24-hour complimentary parking away for residents.

In a positive move, Wynn Resorts ended it two-year-old paid parking program in Las Vegas, announcing Monday it was offering free self-parking at its Wynn Las Vegas and Encore garages for all guests, without limitation, and without the need for validation

It is not cheap either, but not only are you required to pay for the self-park which is usually away from the casino, but you also have to pay for Valet!

Some of the hotels charge $20 to valet your car. I know a few valet parkers who are royally ticked off because of this. Their tips have dropped significantly.

But it doesn’t end there. A plastic bottle of water in the nightclubs are just as expensive and the giftshops charge anywhere from 8-20 dollars for the same bottle of water you can get across the street at 7-11.for 50 cents.

“My favorite of all the loansharking interest fees is at the ATMs. Are you ready? The most expensive I have seen is MGM’s Luxor. They charge $13.99 to take a minimum of $20.00 out of your checking account. In addition and because it is a privately owned machine, your bank then charges you a fee for using a machine that is not part of their linked circuit.

So if you wind up getting $4.00 out of your twenty, you’re lucky. They cannot possibly justify these fees.

The resort fee is assessed as payment for use of the spa, gym, pool and for internet, and in some cases, a newspaper and a cup of coffee.

Even if every single person in the 5000 plus rooms at the MGM did use these amenities, you can’t tell me that it cost $40.00 times 5000.rooms to keep such amenities clean and serviced for one day.

They have caused the local hotels to jump on their greed bandwagon, one in particular now charges $7.50 per night resort fee and doesn’t have a resort.

There is a swimming pool the size of a bathtub in the middle of the strip mall parking lot the hotel is in.

Upon bringing this to a manager’s attention, she basically told me, to put it more simply, “we charge it because we can “(sic). and this is the attitude of most of the hotels now.

He is saying to the resorts: “What gets my goat though is I, as a resident am bringing my friends and family to spend money and, more likely than not, lose money in your casino, and you, have the audacity to charge each car coming in to do that.

The only guests that have the ability to park for free are the upper-level players club card holders, eg. high rollers, who don’t have to maybe forfeit a show this trip because parking their rental car cost them $100 for five days.

The eTN reader said: What we need to do is outright refuse to pay these fees. Until you get two people to agree on actually protesting something, its not going to happen, and this pure corporate greed is going to continue to keep the mucky mucks in goldplated toilet seats.

Why?-because if you protest anything in this “free” country of ours, you’re made to look like a fool. It’s not like in the 60’s when the kids forced the middle class to take a hard look at what was going on in Vietnam and significantly help stop a massacre of a war.

It truly is a disgrace but we CAN refuse to book these hotels and boycott the exorbitant, ridiculous, usury and extortionist practices and fees. Until they come down to an affordable and reasonable and JUSTIFIABLE cost to the consumer, they’re just going to keep on rising and Las Vegas is headed for less tourism and the casinos will look like a board of directors meetings with only the “privileged few.

Oh what fun!

Thank you for this article it was necessary are now maybe a few judges and many more average consumers wil be rightfully exposed to this shaking out of the publics pockets.
