German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, and Italian Prime Minister, Giuseppe Conte, will also be resent at the meeting in the Basilica of San Francesco.

The director of the Press Room of the Sacred Convent of Assisi, Father Enzo Fortunato, underlined that the lamp of Saint Francis will be delivered by the Guardian of the Sacred Convent of Assisi, Father Mauro Gambetti, to His Majesty King Abdullah II who “in the Middle East and throughout the world has distinguished himself and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan through its action and commitment to promote human rights, harmony between different faiths, the reform of the educational system and the freedom of worship, and at the same time has given hospitality and a safe haven to millions of refugees.

“These are the reasons why we have decided to reward His Majesty with the Lamp of Peace” said father E.Fortunato.

Italian ambassador at the Holy See Pietro Sebastiani, the Speaker of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, Fabrizio Micalizzi, and the Director of the Press Room of the Sacred Convent of Assisi, Father Enzo Fortunato, were present at the presentation press conference, which was held on March 6 at the Foreign Press Association in Rome.

During the meeting, it was announced by the director of Rai Ragazzi,(a TV channel for children) Luca Milano, the animated film on the Saint of Assisi that will be broadcast on the Rai networks.

“An animated film for children and families, with particular attention to the public ranging from 7 to 14 years,” – said the director Luca Milano.

The film starts with the meeting that took place in 1219, eight hundred years ago, between St. Francis and the Sultan of Egypt. From there backward, the animated film presents the essential moments of the life of the Saint of Assisi to the children of today.

Jordan and Italy have always had friendly relations and collaboration maintained through the embassies, King Abdullah II and by King Hussein before him, as well as by the Catholic Church and Jordanian Islamic institutions.

The awarding of the lamp of peace is a testimony to the efforts that Jordan made by SM Abdullah II “to promote peace and harmony through confessions throughout the world”

Peace, harmony, solidarity are values that our world needs concluded the ambassador.
