Axel Hotels Group is the first “hetero-friendly” hotel to open in Italy. It is a new project that is part of its expansion plan for Sonders & Beach Group partner in Italy for LGBTQ tourism services.

Axel Hotel Venezia, the first hotel chain in the world specifically designed for the LGBTA community, announced the upcoming opening of the Axel Hotel Venezia which will take place on March 15, 2019. This is its first presence on the Italian market and the starting point for a new market in Europe that is bound to reinforce its international expansion project.

This hotel joins the 2 hotels foreseen by the Group for 2019: the AxelBeach Miami and the Axel Hotel San Sebastián, Spain. History, art and, style characterize the upcoming Axel Hotel Venezia.

The location is a historic building in typical Venetian style in the Dorsoduro district, the meeting point of artists in the years of the Venetian “dolce vita.” It lies next to the Rio Della Fornace, between the Basilica of Santa Maria Della Salute and the Peggy Guggenheim museum, and is only a 15-minute walk from
The Piazza San Marco. Strategically positioned, it is very close to the Santa Lucia Station and Piazzale Roma, and is an easy reach from the Marco Polo Airport.

“The project has been realized with Axel Hotels for their first opening in Italy in Venice,” said Alessio Virgili, CEO of the Sonders & Beach Group Italy. “Our Group will be Axel Hotels’ partner in Italy for LGBTQ tourism services, a strategic partner in Italy thanks to the know-how of the Italian market.

“I feel doubly proud of this first opening both as [the] Italian IGLTA Ambassador and as President of ITGLA, being a result reached after over 15 years [of] proposals for Italy to be the preferred destination for LGBTQ tourism, not least [being] the victory over my proposal to elect Milan as the venue for the IGLTA World Convention on LGBT Tourism 2020.”

The future hotel, completely renovated in 2017, has 55 rooms, 12 of which will be added in June in the building connected to the main one with many rooms overlooking the canal and fully equipped and decorated in line with the style of the historic buildings of Venice that retain their timeless charm.

Among the common areas there is a Lounge Bar in the lobby, a terrace overlooking the canal, and a breakfast area that was a meeting place for the effervescent Venetian cultural life of the 60s.
A space dedicated to fitness and wellness will be created for the summer – a must for any Axel customer.

Venice is considered a unique destination in the world, a place with a magical and mysterious spirit that makes it one of the most-visited cities on the planet. Its link with the world of art, fashion, and architecture fits perfectly with the motivations of the Axel guest and the LGBTA community in general.

In addition to the openings planned for 2019 and the opening of the Axel Hotel Valencia, in 2020 the Axel Group will continue to work on the realization of new international projects in new destinations included in its expansion plan which foresees the opening of 10 new hotels in the next 4 years.
